LKD 229 was the third LD type to be operated by Eastern Counties in 1954 and features the early "apron" front.
This vehicle was one of the first of the low-height design known as the "Lodekka", in that it has a conventional 2+2 seating layout with centre gangway upstairs, but the overall height is that of a Lowbridge design that would have had to have had a sunken side gangway and four side-by-side seats upstairs. The reduced height was achieved by offsetting the driveshaft to accommodate a lower gangway on the lower deck.
LKD 229 was the first vehicle owned by the Society, being purchased from the Company in 1971, and has since undergone extensive restoration. The vehicle has been to many rallies and events all over the country.
